Jesus said, “Do not think that I have come to bring peace, but a sword.” (Matthew 10:34)
Christians should not expect the election will bring peace. No matter the outcome, we need to be prepared for turbulent times. Whichever side wins, the other side is likely to challenge the election, deservedly or not. If one side wins, Christians can expect to come under increasing cancellations, persecution, loss of freedom and cultural disintegration. If the other side wins, the forces of evil will be enraged, and vitriol, violence and even more assassination attempts will likely result. In other words, we are in the midst of a cultural not-so-cold war that is likely to become hotter, unless we just decide to surrender; certainly the other side won’t willingly surrender until Christ returns and utterly subdues them.
We Have Peace with God
Our peace is not of this world or it’s government. Jesus said, “My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27) “Since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1) As for our dealings with/in this fallen world, “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peacefully with all,” (Romans 12:9) But never at the cost of betraying or denying Christ. And don’t expect the devil and his minions to bring peace on earth, unless it is under its tyrannical enslavement.
Armor of God
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. . .” (Ephesians 6: 10 ff.)
The Days Are Evil
Eternal peace and rest is the destiny of the faithful — in God’s good time. Meanwhile, let us be “making the best use of the time, for the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:16)
